The Wyoming Department of Health faced the challenge of replacing its aging legacy Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) to meet the evolving needs of its member population.
Despite the additional hurdles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Wyoming successfully implemented the Wyoming Integrated Next Generation System (WINGS) with Acentra Health’s flagship evobrix X™ platform in a record-breaking 19 months. Leveraging a hybrid-agile development methodology and virtual tools, the implementation achieved CMS certification with zero findings, showcasing Wyoming’s commitment to improving healthcare access and efficiency for its residents.
Challenge
Wyoming’s Department of Health encountered a major challenge when it became clear that its aging legacy MMIS would no longer suffice. To address this issue, the state created the Wyoming Integrated Next Generation System (WINGS), a modern modular enterprise solution
designed to meet the needs of its complex member population and the entire Wyoming State enterprise. However, the implementation of WINGS was further complicated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced both the Wyoming and Acentra Health teams to work and implement remotely.
Solution
Acentra Health was able to address the challenges faced in Wyoming by utilizing a unique approach to implementation through our flagship solution, evobrix X™, along with our track record of assisting Medicaid agencies to modernize and transform their businesses.
evobrix X™ is a modern healthcare platform specifically designed for Medicaid. This cutting-edge system provides transparency and is constantly evolving to keep pace with market changes. With cloud-based technology, evoBrix X™ is optimized to deliver high-quality performance that meets current and future Medicaid enterprise demands. With shared infrastructure, states can leverage pre-existing rules and modifications to implement more quickly and efficiently while reducing ongoing operational costs.
Notably, Wyoming’s successful implementation was not hindered by the COVID pandemic and remote workforce due to Acentra Health’s innovative implementation methodology. Acentra Health’s Fit-to-Product implementation approach, coupled with our extensive experience assisting State and Federal agencies with Organization Change Management (OCM), made evoBrix X™ an unparalleled solution. Our distinctive approach to OCM enabled Wyoming to integrate an entirely new system and deploy it to operations in an impressive 19-month timeframe.
Results
For over 50 years, MMIS has been a complex system to implement, but Wyoming has managed to do it in just 19 months, making it the fastest MMIS implementation to date. This achievement was not about winning a race, but rather, making healthcare more accessible and efficient for Wyoming’s citizens. The state and its MMIS partners utilized hybrid-agile software development and project governance methodologies, along with virtual tools and processes that had not been previously used in such a large-scale, highly complex software and service implementation.
Wyoming has accomplished a remarkable feat by achieving CMS Certification with zero findings, all while setting a record for its fastest implementation timeline. This milestone underscores the state’s commitment to promoting the overall health of its residents.
