Managing Director and Portfolio Chief Commercial Officer, Carlyle

Victor Gustaf Gao is a Managing Director at the Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) and Chief Commercial Officer of Carlyle’s U.S. Buyout business. Since joining Carlyle in 2022, Gao has advised the firm’s flagship funds in deal sourcing, asset selection, and high-stakes enterprise transformation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Acentra Health.

Previously, Gao was a member of the Executive Committee and a Section 16 Officer at Arrow Electronics (NYSE: ARW), a Fortune 100 company in semiconductor design engineering and distribution, where he built and led the company’s data-as-a-service, advanced design software, ecommerce, and engineering marketplace businesses. An innovator in applied artificial intelligence, Gao was a founding board member of MIT’s Applied Machine Learning program and a recipient of two Thomas Edison Awards.

Gao holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wesleyan University, an MBA from the University of Southern California, and is a graduate of the Executive Programme at the University of Oxford.
